Basil Sellers Art Prize

'Basil Sellers, philanthropist and long-time sport lover says the new prize is the first step in a long term project to change Australian attitudes to art and sport'. So, whether ‘sport’ is interpreted as two-up or tiddlywinks, or references are made more obliquely to obsession, or the concept of ‘winning at all costs’, we are encouraging artists to ask pointed questions and to explore the murkier backwaters of sporting culture.”
Being passionate about horses and a dressage rider who now works with clay, I thought I would give it a go. Though unsuccessfull, I enjoyed the challenge and appreciate all feedback. I look forward to seeing the selected works later in the year.

The short-listed artists have been invited to submit work for the July 2008 exhibition. Check out the site at http://www.sellersartprize.com.au/
